In recent years, we have consistently sought to ensure that the adjudication activity of the Curia is carried out exclusively by judges appointed or transferred by open competition. After a long period of time, from 16 July 2022 no seconded judges will adjudicate cases at the Curia, and from that date on the secondment of judges who have been working here until now will cease.
At the invitation of Ms Corina-Alina Corbu, President of the Supreme Court of Cassation and Justice of Romania, Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia of Hungary, Dr. Katalin Böszörményi-Kovács, Vice-President of the Curia of Hungary, and Dr. Zsolt Csák, Head of the Criminal Department of the Curia of Hungary paid a three-day working visit to Bucharest from 29 June to 1 July 2022.
The European Court of Human Rights held a Solemn Hearing on 24 June 2022 in Strasbourg. At the invitation of Robert Spano, the President of the Court, Dr. András Zs. Varga, the President of the Curia of Hungary also attended the event, at which President Spano summarised the achievements of the European Court of Human Rights over the past year and evaluated the activities of the Court.
One of the agenda items of the Venice Commission’s 131st meeting – held on 17-18 June 2022 in Venice, Italy – was the follow-up of the Venice Commission’s recommendation CDL-AD(2021)036 on Hungary, adopted in Autumn 2021. Didier Reynders, the Justice Commissioner of the European Commission, was also present for part of the meeting.
