Visit of a Council of Europe delegation to the Curia of Hungary

On 11 October 2022, the President of the Curia received the visit of a Council of Europe delegation of experts from the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. The delegation was led by Christophe Poirel, Director of the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe, and included as members Patrick Schäfer, Head of the Hungarian Section of the Department for the Execution of Judgments and Lilla Vukovich, officer of the Hungarian Section of the Department.

Chief justices’ meeting in Győr

On 7 October 2022, Győr hosted a meeting between the President of the Curia and his Czech and Slovak counterparts to discuss cooperation between the supreme judicial forums of the three countries.

The meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere and was attended by Mr. Petr Angyalossy, President of the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic, Mr. Ján Šikuta, President of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic, and Ms. Andrea Moravčíková, Vice-President of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic.

The 12th Assembly and Conference of the International Association of Tax Judges at the Curia

Between 9 and 10 September 2022, the Curia of Hungary hosted the 12th Assembly and Conference of the International Association of Tax Judges (IATJ). The event was attended by a number of foreign and Hungarian tax judges, tax law academics and tax lawyers. The Budapest meeting examined, among other issues, the question of beneficial ownership, the case-law on exemption from VAT of hospital and medical care services, the case-law on tax treaty entitlement and the topic of tax procedures in the aftermath of COVID-19.

The Curia’s communication on the practice of the evaluation of applications for judgeship positions

Pursuant to section 103, subsection (3), point f) of Act no. CLXI of 2011 on the Organisation and Administration of the Courts of Hungary, the National Judicial Council (NJC) shall publish an annual opinion on the practice of the President of the Curia of Hungary in relation with the evaluation of applications for judicial and court executive positions. Under the law, the NJC’s standpoint is solely an opinion without any legal consequences.
