The European Court of Human Rights held a Solemn Hearing on 27 January 2023 in Strasbourg. At the event, Prof. Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia of Hungary, was represented by Dr. Judit Gyarmathy, Secretary General of the Curia of Hungary.

At the Solemn Hearing, Ms. Siofra O’Leary, President of the Court, gave a summary of the achievements of the European Court of Human Rights over the past year and evaluated the Court’s activities.

At the invitation of Mr. Koen Lenaerts, President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Prof. Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia of Hungary, attended the Court of Justice’s jubilatory conference and formal sitting on 5-6 December 2022 to mark the 70^th anniversary of the Court of Justice.

Prof. Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia of Hungary received H.E. David Pressman, the newly appointed Ambassador of the United States of America to Hungary, in his office at the Curia on 16 November 2022. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Judit Gyarmathy, Secretary General of the Curia of Hungary, Dr. Lipót Höltzl, Head of the International Department of the Curia of Hungary and Dr. Zita Bencsik, Head of the North-America Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.

Concerning the place of Dr. Jenő Szemák among the Presidents of the Curia of Hungary (‘Curia’), two considerations had to be taken into account:

Prof. Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia of Hungary and Dr. Márta Ábrahám, Director of the Curia’s Werbőczy Research Institute participated at a conference entitled “The Rule of Law – in Search of a Standard of Control”, held in Warsaw on 7-9 November 2022.
