
The European Court of Human Rights held a Solemn Hearing on 27 January 2023 in Strasbourg. At the event, Prof. Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia of Hungary, was represented by Dr. Judit Gyarmathy, Secretary General of the Curia of Hungary.
At the Solemn Hearing, Ms. Siofra O’Leary, President of the Court, gave a summary of the achievements of the European Court of Human Rights over the past year and evaluated the Court’s activities.
The event was accompanied by an international judicial seminar entitled “Judges preserving democracy through the protection of human rights”, at which the participants – presidents and judges of European supreme and constitutional courts, judges of the European Court of Human Rights, representatives of the Court of Justice of the European Union and experts from the Council of Europe – examined the role of freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and association and the right to free elections in a democracy.
