On 25 June 2021, between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the Hungarian Lawyers Association holds a jubilee conference, entitled “Values and institutions in the ten-year-old Fundamental Law” on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Fundamental Law of Hungary in the Curia’s Assembly Hall. The conference includes a number of professional lectures – on topical issues related to the aforementioned anniversary – from the country’s public dignitaries and from the representatives of the various legal professions.

Dr. András Zs. Varga, the President of the Curia of Hungary received H.E. Park Chul-Min, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Hungary on 7 June 2021 in the premises of the Curia of Hungary.

During the Ambassador’s introductory visit, the parties discussed Hungary’s successful disease management and commemorated the victims of the watercraft accident on Danube river that had happened two years ago. Lastly, they stressed the importance of the cultural and judicial relationships between the two countries.

The associate professor of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University was informed about the constitutional relationship between the Constitutional Court and the Curia of Hungary, the Fundamental Law’s provisions on the Curia of Hungary, in particular regarding the Curia’s role in connection with the uniformed application of law as well as about the specificities of the uniformity complaint procedure. The Hungarian system of administrative justice was also discussed.

The President and the Vice-Presidents of the Curia of Hungary as well as their staff members were engaged in a constructive consultation with the representatives of the Venice Commission on the ninth amendment to the Fundamental Law of Hungary.

Today, the President of the Curia of Hungary was engaged in an open professional consultation with the European Commission’s representatives in Hungary on the Commission’s Rule of Law Report.

The rule of law is a predominant value in European and Hungarian culture, and it cannot be set aside in the process of the organisation of a society based on justice, peace and cooperation. However, due to the wide variety of cultural, societal and linguistic backgrounds, the rule of law may necessarily have diverse forms in the different legal cultures.
