Judges and legal academics discussed the relationship between the European Union’s general and exceptional legal regulations at a seminar that took place on 25-26 October 2018 in Heidelberg. Hungarian Chief Justice Dr. Péter Darák paid a visit to the city located in Baden-Württemberg upon invitation from the German Financial and Tax Law Institute. The seminar was organised as a tribute to the Institute’s director, Prof. Dr. Dres. h.c. Paul Kirchhof who celebrated his 75th birthday in February 2018.

“The Hungarian heroes of 1956 have stood as a timeless example and have served as a never-ending source of power to all freedom-loving nations” – told Dr. Péter Darák on 24 October 2018 in Munich. The President of the Curia delivered a solemn speech at Hungary’s Consulate General in the Bavarian capital to commemorate the 1956 revolution and freedom fight in Hungary. President Darák emphasised that “the Hungarian revolution’s living truth is that people and nations should live only in freedom for which sacrifice is never in vain, even in the most desperate times”.

The delegation of the High Court of Cassation and Justice of Romania paid their first bilateral visit to the Curia of Hungary. The five-member Romanian delegation, led by Vice-President Mr. Ilie Iulian Dragomir, visited Budapest on 15-17 October 2018.

The Hungarian Branch Association of the International Federation for European Law (FIDE) was established 15 years ago. On the occasion of this anniversary, a conference was organised by the Editorial Board of the Scientific Journal “Európai Tükör” (“European Mirror”) of the National University of Public Service and by the FIDE’s Hungarian Branch Association at the Faculty of Law of Eötvös Loránd University on 17 October 2018.

A joint judicial seminar was held by the Curia of Hungary and the Federal Administrative Court of Germany (Bundesverwaltungsgericht) on 10-12 October 2018 in Budapest. The event sought to provide a platform for the participants to discuss issues related to the latest development of the administrative courts’ case-law, the new Hungarian Code of Administrative Litigation and the restructuring of the Hungarian administrative court system.
