Dr. István Kónya, Vice President of the Curia of Hungary, represented the Curia at the VIth International Conference of the Presidents of the Supreme Courts of Central and Eastern Europe, held in Belgrade from 20 to 22 June 2016.

The Conference discussed the following main topics: contribution of the supreme courts to the quality of justice; prevention of backlogs, case management and alternative dispute resolution; the role of supreme courts in reforming the judicial system; cooperation of the supreme courts with the European Court of Human Rights; the judiciary and the media.

The Judges’ Summit on Human Trafficking and Organized Crime was held in the Vatican on 3 and 4 June 2016. Following Pope Francis’ wish, the summit was organized by the Pontifical Academies of Science and Social Sciences (Pontificia Accademia delle Scienze).

The summit has been attended by high-ranking justices and prosecutors from all around the world, including Dr. Péter Darák, President of the Curia of Hungary.

The XXVII FIDE (Fédération Internationale pour le Droit Européen, International Federation for European Law) Congress was held in Budapest, Hungary on 18-21 May 2016.

The Faculty of Law of Pázmány Péter Catholic University in co-operation with the Hungarian FIDE Association has been given the opportunity to organise this prestigious professional event for the first time.

Dr. Péter Darák, President of the Curia, and dr. Péter Hajnal, Judge, Head of Panel of the Curia, President of the Association of Hungarian Administrative Judges, participated in the 12th IASAJ Congress and General Assembly held in Istanbul from 4 to 7 May 2016.

The main theme of the Congress was alternative dispute resolution whose applicability was examined in the context of administrative cases related to public contracts and public procurement, public service, taxation and economic regulation.

Dr. István Kónya, Vice President of the Curia of Hungary, represented the Curia at the Conference of the Presidents of the Supreme Courts of China and the Central and Eastern European Countries, held from 3 to 8 May 2016 in Suzhou and Beijing as a step in the process of widening the cooperation already existing in the field of economics between China and the Central and Eastern European Countries (16+1 cooperation) into the area of justice.
