Prof. Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia of Hungary, the Curia’s Vice-President responsible for ensuring uniform jurisprudence, the Head of the Curia’s Administrative Chamber and the Head of the Curia’s International Department received, in the morning of 11 March 2022 in the premises of the Curia, the delegation of the Election Observation Mission to Hungary of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
The Election Observation Mission arrived in Hungary at the end of February 2022 with the mandate of monitoring the April 2022 parliamentary elections and national referendum, within the framework of its mission, the Election Observation Mission’s delegates had a one-hour long consultation with the Curia’s representatives.
During their meeting, the parties held discussions on the following topics: the role of the court in the electoral process, court decisions relating to the last elections and referendum, precedent-setting court decisions relating to previous elections, issues relating to the legal framework of elections and the application of international standards and commitments in judicial decision-making.
