International conference and solemn hearing at the European Court of Human Rights

On the invitation of Mr Robert Spano, President of the European Court of Human Rights, Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia of Hungary and Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of the Constitutional Court of Hungary attended the solemn opening of the judicial year of the European Court of Human Rights and the international conference on The Rule of Law and Justice in the Digital Age, organised on the occasion of the solemn opening of the judicial year in Strasbourg on 10September 2021.

The event was attended by the presidents of several European supreme and constitutional courts, as well as judges of the European Court of Human Rights and representatives of the Court of Justice of the European Union.

As an invited speaker of the solemn hearing, the President of the Supreme Court of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ms Dineke de Groot, presented the experience and jurisprudence of the Dutch Supreme Court on the protection of human rights.

As a side event to the solemn opening ceremony of the European Court of Human Rights, the President of the Curia of Hungary had a meeting with Ms Małgorzata Manowska, First President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Poland, and Mr Damijan Florjančič, President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia. The chief justices reviewed the possibilities of strengthening bilateral supreme judicial relations and discussed the development and possible deepening of the cooperation between the supreme courts of the Visegrad countries and the supreme courts of Croatia and Slovenia.
