It is for the fourth time that the Curia of Hungary organised a working breakfast for the Ambassadors accredited to Hungary to provide first-hand information on the most important events and tasks affecting the supreme judicial forum. This year’s meeting, organized around three events in 2026 that mark special anniversaries for the Hungarian judiciary, took place on 12 February.

130 years ago, the National Assembly passed the Act on the Code of Criminal Procedure, which constituted Hungary’s modern criminal procedural code – Dr. Zsolt Csák, Vice-President of the Curia in charge of criminal law matters, gave a presentation to the Ambassadors on the significance of the Act.

It was also 130 years ago that the cornerstone of the Palace of Justice was laid and the seat of the former Royal Curia was handed over. Dr. Judit Gyarmathy, Secretary General of the Curia, reported to the members of the Diplomatic Corps on the history and renovation of the building and the Curia’s planned “moving back home”.

The third important anniversary is the 130th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Administrative Court. Prof. Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia, spoke to the invited guests about the traditions and achievements of administrative justice.

“On the 130th anniversary of administrative justice this year, the Curia is striving to fulfil its statutory duties to the best of its ability, in line with its finest historical traditions, including its duties related to administrative justice. We ensure that the constitutional order is maintained. We do this by preserving our legal traditions, while at the same time attempting to harmonize them with actual legal requirements. What else can we do? Harmonizing tradition and modernity is itself one of our traditions.” – the President of the Curia concluded his reflections at the event.
