A four-member delegation of the Venice Commission, led by Ms. Nina Betetto, was received on 4 February 2025 by Prof. Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia of Hungary.

The delegation of the Venice Commission sought to conduct a preliminary examination of the new provisions of the Act on the Organisation and Administration of the Courts of Hungary, which entered into force in July 2024, with a view to issuing an opinion thereon at a later stage. The new provisions allow the Minister of Justice to obtain, by way of addressing a request to the President of the National Office for the Judiciary, the content of certain anonymised court decisions and information on the duration of proceedings, in order to prepare legislation and to examine the implementation of the pieces of legislation.

The President of the Curia informed the delegation of the Venice Commission about the experiences of the supreme judicial forum. He has highlighted, among others, that most of the decisions of the Curia are accessible, by virtue of the law, in an anonymised format in the Collection of Court Decisions, hence, they can be freely accessed by anyone, so the system is very transparent.
