For the first time, an official meeting between the General Court of the European Union and the Curia of Hungary took place on 23 May 2024. The international delegation was led by Dr. Savvas S. Papasavvas, Vice-President of the General Court, and included Dr. Jesper Svenningsen, Chamber President, as well as Dr. Pēteris Zilgalvis and Dr. Tihamér Tóth, Judges of the General Court. Prof. Dr. András Zs. Varga, President of the Curia, and several Curia judges received the delegation in the Mailáth Hall of the Hungarian supreme judicial forum.
The primary objective of the visit was to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between the two organizations through a dialogue on the competences of the EU and Hungary’s judicial institutions, with a particular focus on a few priority and topical issues.
The Vice-President of the General Court of the European Union presented the changes in the General Court’s jurisdiction. Then, the participants of the meeting discussed competition law cases and issues related to the preliminary ruling procedure, and compared the case allocation systems of the Curia and the Courts of the European Union.
