The Supreme Court of Latvia, the Supreme Court of Lithuania, the Supreme Court of Spain, the Curia of Hungary, the University of Antwerp and the University of Ljubljana decided to jointly participate in a project entitled “Supreme courts as guarantees for the effectiveness of judicial systems in the European Union”, co-funded by the European Union. The project’s kick-off meeting was held in Riga on 12 July 2016 in the premises of the Supreme Court of Latvia.

The project, expected to run between 30 June 2016 and 30 April 2017, aims in particular to explore and examine the research and documentation work within the supreme courts, their communication strategies and administration, as well as the relationship between the supreme courts and the national councils of judiciary. At their kick-off meeting, the project partners reviewed the draft questionnaire to be circulated among the supreme courts of the European Union’s Member States, set up an approximate roadmap for the upcoming study visits, meetings and conferences, looked at the analysis of the supreme courts’ best practices and at the modalities of the dissemination of the project results.
