Solemn Hearing and Judicial Seminar at the European Court of Human Rights

The European Court of Human Rights held a ceremony to mark the official opening of the judicial year and a judicial seminar on 26 January 2024 in Strasbourg. At the event, the Curia of Hungary was represented by President Prof. Dr. András Zs. Varga and by Secretary General Dr. Judit Gyarmathy.

The international judicial seminar’s participants analyzed the impact of Protocol No. 15 amending the European Convention on Human Rights on the implementation of the principle of subsidiarity, discussed the position of the national courts in that regard as well as the issues of constitutional review, the exhaustion of domestic remedies and process-based review.

The seminar was followed by a ceremony to mark the official opening of the judicial year 2024, with keynote speakers Ms. Siofra O’Leary, President of the European Court of Human Rights and Mr. Didier Reynders, European Commissioner for Justice. In her opening speech, the President of the ECtHR gave a summary of the Court’s achievements over the past year by evaluating the Court’s activities.
